An ancient and traditional art form, Pattachitra runs through generations. The Handicraft is practiced in a traditionally set age-old process. Natural colors extracted from various minerals are used on hand-made cloth canvas, to paint the tales of Lord Krishna and Jagannathan. It is an exquisite and incredible art form with intricate detailing. Canvas preparation is a long process and begins with rubbing tamarind paste on pieces of cotton cloth. After it dries, the surface is smoothened, and a paste of conch shell/limestone powder is applied on it to give a white color. A series of steps are followed to paint on the prepared canvas
Madhubani Art (or Mithila painting) is a style of Indian painting. Madhubani painting was traditionally created by the women of various communities in the Mithila region of the Indian subcontinent. It originated from Madhubani district of the Mithila region of Bihar. Madhubani paintings mostly depict people and their association with nature and scenes and deities from the ancient epics. Natural objects like the sun, the moon, and religious plants like tulsi are also widely painted, along with scenes from the royal court and social events like weddings. Generally, no space is left empty; the gaps are filled by paintings of flowers, animals, birds, and even geometric designs.
