This craft is believed to be the oldest art of human history. Cane or locally known as Bamboo, the most lightweight, eco friendly, with its own elegance and style is a type of grass.

In the states like Assam, Nagaland & other north eastern states the use of Bamboo in day-to-day activities, including construction, household items, accessories, musical instruments, is very common. The Bamboo of *Tripura* is famous for its elegant look. The handicrafts with beautiful and attractive designs with a unique style by the tribals are altogether different things to try.
In Nagaland, life begins in the bamboo cot and ends in a bamboo coffin.
The Nagas are excellent basket weavers. Kiltu- a large conical basket is used for storing grain.
The craft of making various utility items using Cane, Bamboo, and grass is practiced in India for ages. A particular type of grass that is golden white in color is available in plenty. The tribes at Chota Nagpur are masters in making cane products. Barodia tribes are well known for basket making. The tribals from Dangs and Dahod are well known for their trays, baskets, boxes, and mats. The north-eastern region of India is most affluent in the production and use of Cane and Bamboo and its products.
Among the sixteen major tribes of Arunachal Pradesh whom the Adi group is the largest in number, followed by Wancho, Nishi, Nocte, Monpa, Apa Tani, Tagin and Hill Miri. Every tribe has its own customs and style of crafting bamboo products.
