The Craft Tradition
This art form is essentially “Rajasthani Hand-painted Wooden Craft” — a living continuation of miniature painting and toy-making traditions, now adapted to modern décor items like T-light holders.
Woodwork in Rajasthan has been practiced for centuries – from doors, temple panels, toys to small decorative articles. Jaipur, Udaipur, Kishangarh, and Jodhpur are known centres.
Over time, artisans began making smaller, utilitarian–decorative objects like trays, boxes, idols, and candle holders for the urban and tourist market.
These are especially popular during Diwali, weddings, corporate gifting because they combine “light” (auspiciousness) with folk art.
